This app keeps your books, your place, your notes, and your ratings on your own phone — nothing is uploaded, and there are no accounts. Two things do leave your phone: a small amount of anonymous, aggregate usage counting (how often the app is opened and which books are played), which can’t be tied to you and which you can switch off below; and anything you choose to post on the public Feedback board. There is no advertising and no personal tracking.
This audiobook player is made by Michael Toker (Israel). Questions about privacy: dontokeron@gmail.com.
The audio files you add, your listening position, chapter/part progress, notes, book ratings and reviews, and your settings are stored only in your phone’s local browser storage. They are never sent to us or anyone else. Deleting the app (or clearing its site data) removes them — that is why the app offers a Save backup option you control.
To understand how the app is used in aggregate, it sends a few anonymous events to our own server (a Cloudflare Worker). Each event contains only:
That’s all. We store only running totals, so there is no per-person history. We never collect or keep: your name, any account, any device or install identifier, your IP address, your location, cookies, or anything that could single you out or be traced back to you. Because the data is anonymous, it can’t be used to identify you.
The Recommended screen is a shared list of books people think are worth reading. Anything you type there — the title, author, why you liked it, and the name you choose to sign with — is public to everyone using the app, so please don’t put anything private in it. Votes are counted anonymously; which book you voted for is remembered only on your own phone. No book files are ever uploaded, stored or shared through this app — the list carries titles and opinions only.
The app has a Stats screen with two parts. “You” is counted on this phone only — time listened, parts finished, notes, your busiest hour — and never leaves the device. “Everyone” shows the combined anonymous totals described above, including a list of the most-played book titles. Those totals come from everyone using the app and are shown to everyone using it; they carry no names, accounts or identifiers, and a title only appears once it has at least three plays, so a single play can never point at one listener. If you would rather not contribute to those totals, turn off the switch above.
If you use Change cover → Search, the words in the search box (normally the book’s title) are sent to our server, which forwards them to the Open Library catalogue and returns matching pictures. The search words are not stored or logged by us and aren’t linked to you. If you instead choose a photo from your phone, nothing leaves the device at all. Either way the picture you pick is saved only on your phone.
Everything else — the audio files, your listening position, notes, ratings and reviews, and settings — never leaves your phone. The server that hosts the app (Cloudflare Pages) just delivers the app’s files; after your first visit the app also works offline.
If you choose to post a bug report or an idea on the Feedback board, what you write is published publicly — anyone using the app can read it, and so can the developer. We store the text you wrote, the optional display name you typed, and the time you posted. Nothing else is attached: no account, no device identifier, and your IP address is not stored.
Please don’t put personal details (your address, phone number, email, or anyone else’s information) in a post. Posting is entirely optional — the app works fully without it. The developer may hide or delete posts that are spam, abusive, or contain personal information, and may reply to a post. If you want something you posted removed, email the address above and describe it.
This app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.
Everything is on your device and under your control: you can add or delete books, edit or delete notes, and export a backup at any time. The switch above turns anonymous statistics off completely. Because those statistics are anonymous, there is nothing tied to you for us to look up or delete on request.
If this statement changes, the “Last updated” date above will change, and any new data collection will be described here before it starts.
